with videoWillem II got rid of VVV in Sunday’s lunch game, who were able to produce particularly good figures in away games this season. But not in Tilburg, where Jizz Hornkamp made the difference with two hits (2-1).

Reinier Robbemond sent the same eleven players to the field as last week in De Vliert against FC Den Bosch (0-2 win). VVV came to Tilburg knowing that they have won ten of their fifteen away games so far.

In the sixth minute the first chance was for the Tilburgers. After a good attack, Jizz Hornkamp fired hard at the enemy goal from the edge of the penalty area. The VVV goalkeeper could barely get a hand behind the shot. The next goal opportunity was also for the home team. Max Svensson saw his effort hit the post through the body of a VVV defender.

Just after twenty minutes the first goal threat from VVV arose. Forward Sven Braken headed in, but a minute later he scored. Willem II did not know how to defend well on two occasions, after which the visitors took advantage: 0-1.

Willem II recovered and reached the same level before the break. Jizz Hornkamp ran into the penalty area with the ball at his foot and fired diagonally low: 1-1.

Immediately after the break, the home team, which was now playing against Korvel, started a new offensive. That quickly resulted in the second goal. And again it was Hornkamp who pushed. After a missed header from Lucas Woudenberg, the ball fell to the striker’s feet, who knew how to handle this great chance from close range: 2-1.

On Willem II’s next attack, he was struck again and again it was Hornkamp who scored, but the linesman had mistakenly flagged offside. Therefore, VVV remained in the game.

Back Meerveld

After more than an hour of football, Ringo Meerveld reappeared after a muscle injury that kept him away for several weeks. He replaced Max Svensson. And with just under fifteen minutes left on the clock – nothing remarkable happened in between – Jizz Hornkamp stepped aside to massive applause, in favor of Michael de Leeuw.

Willem II seemed not to be threatened with a header from a triple, although the narrow margin forced caution. In the senior finals, Joeri Schroijen was brought up against the tired Elton Kabangu.

VVV tried to force the equalizer, but Willem II no longer gave away great opportunities. At the last minute, Thijs Oosting still had 3-1 in his shoe, but he shot wide.
