German Darts Grand PrixRaymond van Barneveld has reached the second round of the German Darts Grand Prix after a searing duel with Ian White. The Dutchman was 6-5 too strong for the Englishman. Berry van Peer and Jeffrey de Zwaan also qualified for the second round, while Vincent van der Voort was immediately knocked out.

Van Barneveld caused a lot of show on the night against White. Although ‘Barney’ had the best average for a long time, the first 8 (!) games ended in a 4-4 break. That was thanks in part to a 113 finish and a sudden 161 finish from White. Van Barneveld also showed an impressive result shooting 124 under pressure. It wasn’t until the ninth stage that the Englishman managed to hold his own leg, after Barney missed the target in a 170 finish.

However, the Hagenees did not give up and forced a decisive leg with a brilliant finish of 131. But after all those great finishes, both Darts suddenly began to lose the doubles in the eleventh and final leg. White missed 4 darts of the match and Barney hit his sixth dart before the match: 6-5. Despite that last stretch, Van Barneveld’s three-arrow average was still 102.49. Tomorrow the five-time world champion will need that level again against Gerwyn Price.

Jeffrey de Zwaan also experienced a stressful match in the first round, but remained calm in the last leg. For a long time, the 27-year-old De Zwaan seemed headed for an early exit from the Euro Tour tournament in Munich. the black cobra saw Brendan Dolan quickly take a 3-0 lead.

But trailing 4-1, the experienced Dolan began to miss a few doubles and De Zwaan immediately took advantage. The number 94 in the world ranking went back to 5-5 and then the room exploded with a great final 150 for the win: 6-5.

Berry van Peer also made it to the second round without any problems. The Dutchman was 6-1 too strong for Dutch American Jules van Dongen in Munich.

The 26-year-old Van Peer quickly gained an advantage in his duel with Van Dongen, thanks in part to an impressive 130 finish on the third stage. The world-ranked PDC number 159 posted an average of 97.21 throughout the match and had an impressive completion percentage of a whopping 75 per cent. Van Dongen was unable to get into the game, created few chances in the doubles, and only averaged 83.97.
