The return to the bench of manager Frank Lampard has not yet meant better results for Chelsea in the Premier League. The wandering Londoners lost 1-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, while Manchester United were too strong for Everton 2-0.
Wolverhampton midfielder Matheus Nunes scored the only goal of the game against Molineux in the 31st minute, sending Chelsea to a fourth successive points defeat. The two-time Champion of the Champions League has not even scored in the last three games.
Despite the big investments, Chelsea is nothing more than a central mover this season. Coach Graham Potter was sacked six days ago, after which Bruno Saltor Grau was last in charge on the bench against Liverpool (0-0) on Tuesday.
Against Wolverhampton, Lampard was head coach for the first time on an interim basis. The club icon was sacked as Chelsea manager two years ago and must now try to make something of the season. Chelsea will play Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday.

Eriksen returns to United
Manchester United achieved a simple victory at home (2-0) over Everton. The return of Christian Eriksen gave an extra shine to the victory of the team led by coach Erik ten Hag.
Eriksen came on in the 77th minute. Then the final score was 2-0. Scott McTominay provided the break for the first goal by shooting from a difficult angle. In the second half, Anthony Martial scored the second goal.
The return of Eriksen, 31, came faster than expected. The playmaker suffered an ankle injury earlier this year. It was then estimated that the 120-time Danish international would no longer be available for the remainder of the season.
At odds with the joy of Eriksen’s return was the failure of Marcus Rashford. The United trendsetter stumbled off the field in the closing stages and was replaced by Wout Weghorst. It’s unclear what exactly is wrong with Rashford. Tyrell Malacia had a starting job at Manchester United.
The win over Everton puts United in a stronger position in the battle for a Champions League ticket. The first four will participate in the group stage of the European million ball next season.
Red for Tottenham and Brighton managers
Newcastle United is also still on track for a Champions League ticket. ‘The Magpies’ beat Brentford 1-2, after trailing 0-1 at half-time. Ivan Toney converted a penalty for Brentford late in the first half. In the second half, Newcastle took all three points with an own goal from Brentford player David Raya and a goal from former Willem II striker Alexander Isak.
Tottenham Hotspur won 2-1 against Brighton & Hove Albion after the managers of both clubs were sent off. Tottenham’s Cristian Stellini and Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi collided on the goal line in the 58th minute, with referee Stuart Attwell flashing the red for both Italians.
The score at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was 1-1 at the time, thanks to goals from Son Heung-min (Tottenham) and Lewis Dunk (Brighton). Ten minutes before the end, Harry Kane gave victory to Spurs. Arnaut Danjuma had come on for the home team a minute earlier, while Joël Veltman had a starting job at Brighton.
Aston Villa won 2-0 at home against Nottingham Forest. Former Ajax player Bertrand Traoré and Ollie Watkins scored. Bournemouth were the strongest to visit Leicester City with a Philip Billing goal making it 0-1 and West Ham United against Fulham also finished 0-1. The only goal at Craven Cottage was an own goal by Fulham defender Harrison Reed.
